You’ve got a friend

Loneliness affects many people and on a regular basis Home Care Preferred witness the problems this can cause, in particular as we get older.

During 2017 HCP Social Enterprise has worked with Age Concern on developing a “Speed Dating” scheme for people over 55 years old. The events are more about building new friendships than traditional dating however there has already been some romance at the events.

A Speed Dating event is an informal evening, usually held in a pub or local venue. Attendees have a light meal and have the chance to have short “meetings” with others attending. If they get on well they can exchange details and arrange to stay in contact.

Future plans are to develop a befriending scheme where volunteers will regularly contact people who may be lonely, this may include a regular phone call or visit.
